VOSS thermal management – because efficiency is a question of adjustment

August 21, 2014
With thermal management for electric and hybrid vehicles, VOSS Automotive is opening another future market.

Background: For maximum performance and reach of electric and hybrid vehicles, optimum temperature control of the battery is necessary. The desired operating temperature of common lithium-ion batteries is approx. 25 °C. To reliably ensure this temperature, the battery must be cooled during the summer and heated during the winter.
For even distribution of the coolant, a frost-resistant water-glycol mixture, VOSS is developing a customized connection and distribution technology.

What requirements need to be met?
The individual battery cells in an electric or hybrid vehicle are connected to create a high-voltage unit within a battery pack. The casing is a water-tight design, so it fulfills the full scope of requirements for capacity and reliability of the connection technology, true to the principle: if no water can get in, none can get out.
That means: The media connection and distribution systems must be completely sealed and maintenance-free for the entire service life of the vehicle. In addition, the connection technology must be easily and safely installed to exclude incorrect assembly or assembly errors.

VOSS has exactly this solution.
To be compatible with the wide spectrum of applications in the thermal management sector, VOSS offers customer-specific solutions with changing focal points: This includes creating space-optimized distributor solutions, for instance, with integration of customer-specific components such as sensors and mounting elements. At the same time, VOSS is developing improved quick connect systems - robust, space-optimized, secure against operation errors and easy to assemble. VOSS thus addresses the special requirements of media circulation within a battery pack. Simultaneously, VOSS’s solutions offer tailor-made line routings in different diameters and materials for complex and small spaces. In addition, thanks to its own testing and prototype workshop in Germany and other locations,  the company is capable of delivering complete, vehicle-compatible samples in a very short time, the function of which can later be transferred to serial production 1:1.

Conclusion: VOSS thermal management makes electric and hybrid vehicles go further.
